Teenage rider Darwisy breathes new life into Yuzy Racing Team

PETALING JAYA: The inclusion of young rider Ahmad Darwisy Ahmad Sahir (pic) serves as a beacon of hope for the Yuzy Racing Team, breathing life into the aspirations to revive their past glory in the Petronas Malaysian Cub Prix.

Darwisy, who was promoted from the CP125 to CP150 category, will join hands with teammates Azroy Hakeem Anuar and Shahrol Syazras Shahrol Yuzy to end their team’s mini title drought.

The last time Yuzy Racing Team tasted success was in 2021 when Azroy was crowned the overall champion.

Team principal Shahrol Yuzy Ahmad Zaini believed that Darwisy’s past experience in the Cub Prix and Malaysian Superbike Championship will help him fare well in the new season, which will be held in Jasin Bestari, Melaka, from March 2-3.

“We have a new racer. Azroy and Shazras are still staying for the 2024 season and we are introducing a new 16-year-old racer for CP150, Darwisy,” said Shahrol.

“We felt that the combination of these three racers will be more successful this season.

“Darwisy competed in the CP125 class last year and also in the Asia Talent Cup (ATC), so I think he is mature enough for CP150.

“At the same time, we maintain the concept for rider development, promoting him from CP125 to CP150.

“He has experience in local Cub Prix races and also the Malaysian Superbike Championship (MBSK), so he is eligible to compete in the CP150.”

Azroy has consistently been the team’s top performer, securing second position in 2022 and concluding last season with a third place finish.

Despite the team not being able to produce an overall champion for two consecutive years, Shahrol remains undeterred.

“This mission is even more significant,” said Shahrol.

“We always aim to pursue the championship, but due to unexpected and uncontrollable circumstances, it slightly hindered Azroy’s chances to win the title last year.

“However, it’s okay, and we are always grateful and accept it all.

“We will continue to strive and make efforts.”
