Haziq aims to rise up in the standings

PETALING JAYA: The odds are against Mohd Haziq Mohd Fairues but he is not one who gives up easily.

The PETRONAS Sprinta Yamaha Maju Motor has set his sights on improving his overall standings in the PETRONAS Malaysian Cub Prix Championship in Terengganu this weekend although he will have a competitive bunch for company in the CP150 category.

Haziq is currently fifth overall with 78 points.

“I did quite well in Terengganu in Round 4 by coming in fifth, so I’m fuelled to do better in Round 7. I’ve been working on my physique and mental well-being too,” said Haziq, who set the fastest lap time at the Terengganu circuit.

He admits that the circuit is challenging but aims to thrive on it.

“I have a natural liking for the technical circuit as it requires a certain skill to tackle it, and one has to be compatible with the machine too.”

He finished on the podium twice in Round 1 and 2 but could not continue his winning streak in Round 4 and 5.

He doubled his efforts in Round 6 to finish second.

Team owner Yong Ying Hoe lauded Haziq’s efforts and believes that his hard work will pay off.

“Haziq has been training very hard on his own. During his free time, he would go over to Kuala Selangor to work on his skills,” said Ying Hoe.

“This year, we have seen much improvement on his part. If he can maintain this, he will definitely be in the top five.”
