ONEXOX rule track in Cub Prix qualifiers

PETALING JAYA: ONEXOX Racing Team’s latest recruit Izam Ikmal Izamli (pic) pulled off a stunner when he topped the qualifying timesheets at the season opening Petronas Malaysian Cub Prix Championship.

Izam, who had spent the bulk of his career riding with Honda teams, gelled with the ONEXOX Racing Team Yamaha immediately when he logged 1:17.025 in the closing seconds of the CP150 qualifying session at the Sepang International Circuit yesterday.

“This came as a surprise. But it was gratifying to know that our team have been on point on the strategy.

“Look at the results sheets! We have 14 riders lapping within the same second.

“There is no time to rest on our laurels. While this achievement has injected me with a boost of confidence, the real battle lies in the race tomorrow (today).”

CP150 defending champion Azroy Hakeem Anuar, was second fastest with 1:17.068, 0.043 seconds behind Izam.

Another CP150 title favourite Ahmad Afif Amran from team Petronas Sprinta Yamaha-CKJ Racing came in third with 1:17.207.

The ONEXOX riders also dominated the CP125 session when Mohd Syafiq Rasol came out tops with 1:21.948 followed by teammates Mohd Hafiza Rofa and Abdullah Qayyum Razak in second and third respectively.

The race finals will be held from 2pm onwards today. The grandstands of the Sepang International Circuit are open to the public. Admittance is free.
