PETALING JAYA: The national hockey team moved one step closer to the final of the Asia Cup after defeating China 2-0 in their first Super Four match in India on Wednesday (Sept 3).
The Speedy Tigers maintained their unbeaten run in the tournament by taking the crucial three points against China at the Rajgir Sports Complex in Bihar.
The action came late in the match as Syed Mohd Syafiq Syed Cholan converted a penalty corner in the 45th minute.
Akhimullah Anuar Esook then sealed the win for Malaysia by scoring a field goal two minutes later, with the striker getting his 10th goal of the tournament.
Malaysia will take on India next on Thursday (Sept 4), followed by South Korea on Saturday (Sept 6).
The Super Four stage will see the top two countries head to the final, with the winners earning their ticket to the 2026 World Cup in Belgium and Holland.
