Malaysian Hockey Confederation (MHC) president Datuk Seri Subahan Kamal.

PETALING JAYA: The relationship between the Malaysian Hockey Confederation (MHC) and the National Sports Council (NSC) will continue to flourish.

MHC president Datuk Seri Subahan Kamal was pleased with the appointment of Jefri Ngadirin as the new NSC director-general, stating that both bodies have had a good working relationship which will continue to grow.

"For the past nine years that I have been MHC president, no doubt we have had a good relationship with the NSC," said Subahan.

"Jefri is not someone new to the whole setup. He has had various roles in the council, so there cannot be a better person than him to lead.

"We are looking forward to working with him. He understands everything that needs to be given to support the MHC," said Subahan.

Jefri’s appointment as the 10th NSC supremo will be effective from April 4 as he succeeds Abdul Rashid Yaakub, whose tenure ends a day before.

Jefri is the current NSC deputy director-general (sports development), a position he has held since Jan 8 last year, and has also held the position of head of the Core Sports Unit, director of the Junior Development Branch and Director of the Athletics Division before that.

Meanwhile, Subahan also congratulated Datin Anita Azrina Abdul Aziz on her appointment as chairman of Malaysia Stadium Corporation

Anita is the first woman to be put in charge of the board as she takes over from Datuk Hans Isaac, who announced on Monday that he would be leaving the role.

Subahan said although he has not worked with Anita in the past, the relationship with the stadium board had been strong. The National Hockey Stadium in Bukit Jalil had frequently been used by the corporation to host concerts.

"I have not worked with her before but she has the experience of being on the board. We do believe that she is the right person for the job.

Asian Football Confederation secretary-general Datuk Seri Windsor John was also appointed as the deputy chairman of the board.
