First win for Malaysia hockey team

PETALING JAYA: Malaysia secured their first win in the Nations Cup in Poland when they defeated Canada 4-2 in a group B match on Wednesday.

Malaysia took a 2-0 lead in the first 10 minutes when Fitri Saari (second minute) and Azrai Aizad Abu Kamal (sixth) scored through field goals.

Defender Syed Mohd Syafiq Syed Cholan converted a penalty corner in the 22nd minute while Muhajir Abdu Rauf turned in a field goal in the 42nd minute.

Roopkanwar Dhillon and Maansarovar Sidhu replied for Canada in the 41st (penalty corner) and 51st minutes respectively.

Malaysia drew 4-4 against Pakistan and lost 1-3 France in their previous matches.
