Pint-sized Amirul won’t fall short on duty as first runner in PCs

Eager beaver: Fearless Amirul Hamizan Azhar (right) will continue to be the first runner out during PCs at the Olympic qualifiers in Oman.

PETALING JAYA: Size plays a major role in becoming an effective first runner during penalty corner (PC) set-pieces but brave defender Amirul Hamizan Azhar is an exception to the norm on the international stage.

Amirul stands at only 1.67m but he isn’t falling short in his duty to rush from the goal line to block the opposition team’s drag flicker from scoring against Malaysia since he was given the opportunity by national coach A. Arulselvaraj during the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup in November 2022.
