Malaysia overcome Egypt 4-1 in classification playoff

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia kicked off the classification play-offs at the Junior World Cup with a 4-1 win over Egypt at the National Hockey Stadium in Bukit Jalil on Monday (Dec 11).

Harris Iskandar Osman gave Malaysia a 1-0 lead with a field goal in the eighth minute, while three penalty corner conversions from Faris Harizan (16th), Danish Aiman Khairil Anuar (44th) and Che Nur Akhilrullah Che Mohd Khairulzi Anuar (50th) completed the victory.

Basel Abdulmonem scored the consolation goal for Egypt in the 59th minute.

Malaysia will meet Belgium, who thrashed Canada 12-0, in the 9th-12th placing playoff on Wednesday (Dec 13).
