TNB Cup final: Tenaga foils Terengganu’s treble hopes with a 3-2 win

PETALING JAYA: Tenaga spoiled Terengganu's hopes of a golden treble by beating the East Coast side 3-2 to win the TNB Cup final at the National Hockey Stadium on Thursday (March 31) night.

Tenaga went ahead in the 18th minute through a penalty corner conversion by captain Syed Mohd Syafiq Syed Cholan.

It was only after the break when Tenaga extended their lead through another penalty corner conversion by Mohd Shahril Saabah in the 39th minute.

Tenaga, however, led down their guard and were caught napping as Terengganu fought back to level the score in the span of two minutes through Mohd Marhan Jalil (49th) and Ismail Abu (50th).

With the clock ticking down, it was Mohd Amirul Hamizan Azhar who connected with his hockey stick to guide the ball into the back of Terengganu's net for the winning goal.

Tenaga thus lifted their first hockey silverware in 12 years. Terengganu, on the other hand, will still end the season as the Charity Shield and Malaysia Hockey League winners.
