NATIONAL artistic gymnast Mohd Sharul Aimy concluded his campaign at the Aichi-Nagoya Games without a medal, finishing eighth in the men’s vault final on Friday (Sept 25).
Despite the result, the 2023 Hangzhou Games bronze medalist demonstrated resilience by reaching the final after a challenging year marred by shoulder and meniscus injuries.
Sharul, 25, scored 13.533 on his first attempt but a slight falter on his second attempt yielded a score of 13.466, bringing his total average to 13.499 points.
The gold medal was claimed by Carlos Yulo of the Philippines with an impressive 14.599 points while Mahdi Olfati of Egypt secured the silver with 14.533 points and Hong Kong’s Ng Ka Ki took the bronze with 14.116 points.
Olfati nearly captured the title after executing his signature move, “the Olfati,” for a massive 15.100 on his first vault, but but his execution on his second vault let him down only resulting in a score of 13.966.
