PETALING JAYA: National artistic gymnast Rachel Yeoh Li Wen came agonisingly close to winning Malaysia’s first artistic gymnastics medal at the Commonwealth Games but had to settle for fourth in the women’s uneven bars final at the Arena in Glasgow on Monday (July 27).
Rachel delivered a clean routine to score 13.533 points and briefly led the field after the first three finalists had completed their routines, raising hopes of a podium finish.
Those hopes, however, were dashed when Wales’ Emily Roper produced a better routine to score 13.666 and eventually claimed the bronze medal.
Scotland’s Kate McDonald lived up to her billing as favourite by taking gold with 14.333 points, while Canada’s Elsabeth Black secured silver with 13.900.
