MALAYSIA claimed its first-ever MercedesTrophy World Final crown, winning the 2026 championship in Stuttgart, Germany, and marking a milestone achievement for the country’s amateur golf community.

The Mercedes-Benz flagship amateur tournament brought together national champions from around the world following qualifying events in their respective markets. Malaysia emerged triumphant with a winning team score of 168.

The victory capped a journey that began with four qualifying rounds nationwide before culminating in the MercedesTrophy National Final Malaysia at the Els Club Desaru Coast in Johor.

National champions Ng Jun Lip, Mohd Azli Jamal and Liew Kim Seng earned the right to represent Malaysia on the global stage and delivered a composed performance to secure the title.

Malaysia’s success was further underlined by two individual podium finishes. Liew captured the Singles Category B title, while Ng finished runner-up in Singles Category A.

With approximately 60,000 golfers from 60 countries participating in MercedesTrophy annually, the tournament remains one of Mercedes-Benz’s largest customer engagement platforms, uniting golf enthusiasts through a shared passion for the game.

“Team Malaysia’s achievement in securing its first-ever MercedesTrophy World Final championship reflects the very best of what the tournament stands for: excellence, passion, sportsmanship and teamwork,” said Elaine Hew, general manager, marketing communications, Mercedes-Benz Malaysia.

“We are immensely proud of our champions for representing Malaysia with distinction on the global stage. Their success has brought home a prestigious title and created a milestone that will be remembered for years to come.”

For Ng, the victory was the culmination of an unforgettable week in Germany.

“Winning the 2026 MercedesTrophy World Final is an incredible experience. I’m extremely proud to have represented Malaysia alongside my teammates, and this achievement was truly a team effort,” he said.

Mohd Azli described the triumph as a career highlight.

“A moment I’ll always be proud of. Team Malaysia won the MercedesTrophy World Final in Stuttgart. What a trip, what a week and what an experience,” he said.

Liew added: “It was a great experience to represent Malaysia at the World Final. It feels rewarding to see all our hard work pay off.”

Beyond the competition, participants enjoyed a week-long programme showcasing the Mercedes-Benz brand and heritage. Golfers competed at the five-star Der Öschberghof resort in Germany’s Black Forest region, visited the Mercedes-Benz Museum in Stuttgart and toured the company’s Sindelfingen manufacturing plant.

Adding further prestige to the event was the presence of global Mercedes-Benz brand ambassador Bernhard Langer, the two-time Masters champion who has partnered the marque since 1985.

Participants also had the opportunity to test their skills against the German legend in the popular “Beat Bernhard Langer” challenge.

More than a golf tournament, MercedesTrophy continues to serve as a platform connecting Mercedes-Benz customers through competition, camaraderie and memorable experiences. For Team Malaysia, it has now delivered a place in the tournament’s history books.
