French hospitality fuels Genevieve as she finishes in top 10

PETALING JAYA: Home away from home turned into the perfect experience for Malaysian golfer Genevieve Ling as she secured a top-10 finish at the Arkea Montauban Ladies Open in France over the weekend.

The 31-year-old, competing in her first Ladies European Tour Access Series event of the year, finished tied for eighth on two-under 214 at Golf de Montauban L’Estang.

While pleased with her performance, Genevieve also cherished the warmth and hospitality shown by her host family during her stay in France.

“Didn’t manage to bring home the trophy this time but lots to take away and a top-10 finish for my first week here in Europe,” said Genevieve.

“Golf aside, I must’ve done something right in life because I’m always blessed to meet the most amazing people.

“Thank you to my hosts for welcoming me into your home and cooking for me every day and taking care of me. Merci!

“It means a lot coming from far to have a home-cooked meal after the rounds and it also saves costs, so it’s super generous for them to open their home to me.”

Genevieve opened with a strong four-under 68 on the first day and followed it up with an equally consistent two-under 70, joining the front pack into the final round.

However, the final day saw a rough round of 76, but it was enough to see Genevieve tied for eighth.

Genevieve is aiming to regain full status on the Ladies European Tour (LET), where she made her rookie debut in 2022 before returning for a second season in 2024.

Meanwhile, local player Lauren Holmey took her second win on the series with a six-under 210 finish, while Australia’s Kristalle Blum came a stroke behind in second, followed by France’s Anais Meyssonnier in third with four-under.
