Adam Ariff Madzri won the boys’ category champion while Zulaikah Nurziana Nasser was crowned the girls' champion in the 12th Tan Sri Muhyiddin (TSM) Golf Challenge at Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club.

KUALA LUMPUR: The United States-based golfer Adam Ariff Madzri was crowned the boys’ category champion of the 12th Tan Sri Muhyiddin (TSM) Golf Challenge in dramatic fashion.

The final round of the tournament at the West Course, Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club (KLGCC) saw Adam win by a slim one shot after carding a three-under 213 total score for his maiden title in the tournament.

Marcus Lim Pang Chuen had to settle for second place with a two-under 214 total score while Poon Jia Hao came in third with a three-day total of one-over 217.

The 21-year-old Adam, who is currently pursuing his studies at the Ferris State University in Michigan, said he was elated to win his first title in what would be his last appearance in the tournament.

“I finally nailed it. My training paid off, even if it is just a one-stroke victory. Consistency is important and thank God I managed to put everything in one piece,” he told reporters.

Another US-based golfer, Zulaikah Nurziana Nasser, upstaged reigning champion Winnie Ng to seal the girls’ title.

Zulaikah, 20, posted a three-day total of seven-over 223 while Winnie and another golfer, Ng Jing Xuen, took the second spot with an identical eleven-over 227 total score.

“I felt really good after beating the defending champion today but I would like to give credit to her as she was really amazing, and I am proud of Winnie as we have always competed with each other since we were young,” she said.

The champions in both categories each received a trophy and a scholarship of RM30,000, presented by Tan Sri Muhyiddin, the founder of golf the challenge tournament. — Bernama
