Genevieve stays on course to make cut at Q-School

PETALING JAYA: Genevieve Ling recovered strongly to keep her hopes alive at making the first 54-hole cut in the LPGA Tour Qualifying School (Q-School) Stage One in the United States.

The 26-year-old carded a solid 71 for a two-day total of three-over 147 to sit just one shot off the projected cut line at the Mission Hills Country Club in Rancho Mirage, California on Friday.

Genevieve risked an early exit after posting a poor 76 for joint 206th placing in the opening day, but she moved to joint 131st with 26 others including teammate Loy Hee Ying after a much-improved display.

But the duo have their work cut out for them as only the top 125 and ties will make it to Sunday’s final round.

The battle will then resume over the remaining 18 holes to determine the top 95 and ties progressing to the Q-School Stage Two at the Plantation Golf and Country Club in Venice, Florida, from Oct 21-24.

Alyaa Abdulghany remained as Malaysia’s best performer in the 339-woman contest after signing a successive 72.

She was tied for 61st on 144 overall. But being just two shots above the cut line, Alyaa can take nothing for granted.

French amateur Laine Agathe continued her brilliant form after firing a 67 to set the pace at the 36-hole mark. She led by one shot from American Auston Kim while first-round leader Lian Huizen of China dropped to third following a 70.
