PETALING JAYA: Malaysian No. 1 Gavin Green is out of contention in the Joburg Open in South Africa after his poor form continued.
Gavin, who was joint 10th in the opening day, slipped to tied-21st at the midway point and is tied-61st with a day to play at Randpark Golf Club in Johannesburg.
His five-over 76 on Saturday comprised two birdies and seven bogeys and left him on even-par 213,16 shots behind South African leader Wilco Nienaber.
Nienaber, who’s chasing his maiden European Tour win, carded a 67, giving him a one-shot lead over Joachim Hansen of Denmark.
Earlier in January, Gavin finished a commendable tied-15th at the South African Open, which took place at the same venue.
A top-30 would still be an ideal outing for Gavin as he had finished in that bracket in eight out of the 14 appearances to date.
