SHAH ALAM: Trevor Simsby beat Australian Andrew Dodt and fellow American Jarin Todd in a three-way playoff to win the Bandar Malaysia Open at the Kota Permai Golf and Country Club here Sunday (March 8).
Simsby, 27, calmly rolled in a close birdie putt at the second playoff hole, the par-five 18th, while Dodt settled for a par.
Todd was eliminated at the first extra hole after he could not match the birdie efforts from both Simsby and Dodt.
It is certainly a victory to savour for Simsby as he has just won his first ever professional title.
The tournament had to be decided via a playoff after overnight leader Dodt, who held a one-shot cushion, could only shoot an even-par 72 to finish on 13-under 203 total in regulation.
Simsby and Todd, who started the day two shots off the pace, carded matching 70s to force a playoff.
Simsby netted a cool US$180,000 (RM751,000) for his effort.
Amir Nazrin Jailani and Shahriffuddin Ariffin emerged as the best local finishers in joint 38th spot.
They both finished on a five-under 211 total after carding matching 70s and walk away with a US$6,039 (RM25,200) paycheque each.
