JDT brace for a different beast in ACL Elite

PETALING JAYA: Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) are expecting a different kind of test when they take on Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors in the AFC Champions League (ACL) Elite today.

The Southern Tigers will be looking to extend their winning run in the league stage, but coach Xisco Munoz knows the South Korean side will pose a different challenge from Pohang Steelers, whom JDT beat 2-0 on Oct 12.

JDT have collected seven points from three matches to sit fourth in the standings, while Jeonbuk are 10th with four points.

Xisco expects Jeonbuk to be strong defensively, physically imposing upfront and capable of controlling possession through their midfield.

The Spaniard will also be wary of their attacking threats, including Italian striker Andrea Compagno (1.95m), Brazilian forward Bruno Mota (1.94m) and South Korean playmaker Lee Seung-woo.

“The most important thing for us is to take one more step forward and build on our momentum.

“We certainly have a tough game ahead because we know the quality our opponents possess.

“They are solid defensively, have great quality in midfield to control possession, and carry real speed in the wide channels. We must deliver a complete performance.

“Although we faced Pohang Steelers recently, Jeonbuk present a completely different challenge. They want to command more of the ball and dictate the game.

“What matters most is showing our personality and identity. We must look to hold the ball and display the right mentality. In the final third, we need to bring an extra dimension at certain moments.”
