PETALING JAYA: Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) are hoping livewire striker Bergson Da Silva will recover quickly after the Brazilian scored despite carrying an injury in their 3-0 win over Thai side Port in the AFC Champions League Elite at the Sultan Ibrahim Stadium on Tuesday.
The 35-year-old came off the bench to score JDT’s second goal but had already told head coach Xisco Munoz that he was struggling with a problem and needed to be substituted.
“He was already injured before the goal. He told me beforehand that he had a problem and needed to be substituted,” said Munoz.
“We hope he recovers soon because we have important matches coming up.”
Da Silva, who lasted only seven minutes on the pitch, was replaced by Spanish forward Juan Molina Martinez in the 65th minute.
JDT remain unbeaten in the competition, having collected seven points from three matches.
Jonathan Silva opened the scoring in the 53rd minute before Da Silva doubled the lead, with Martinez completing the 3-0 win in the 85th minute.
Munoz was also pleased with his side’s tactical adjustments after a slow first half.
“I’m proud of the consistent performance we showed, particularly in how we controlled the tempo and tactical aspects of the game,” he said.
“In the first half, we had only one player in the box.
“In the second half, we pushed more players forward to create better chances.
“When we attack down the flanks, opponents have to find ways to stop us. That allows us to overload certain areas and create space.”
