JDT demolish Port to stay unbeaten in AFC Champions League

PETALING JAYA: Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) stayed unbeaten in the AFC Champions League (ACL) Elite with a 3-0 win over Thai side Port at the Sultan Ibrahim Stadium on Tuesday (Oct 27).

The victory left the Southern Tigers with seven points after three matches.

JDT dominated from the start but had to wait until the 53rd minute to break the deadlock. Argentinian wingback Jonathan Silva collected a pass from winger Arif Aiman Hanapi and fired a shot from the centre of the penalty box into the bottom left corner.

Four minutes later, striker Bergson Da Silva came on for Iranian striker Shahab Zahedi, and the naturalised Brazilian needed just seven minutes to make his mark. The 35-year-old headed in a cross from Oscar Arribas, the ball deflecting off Port defender Peerawat Akkratum and wrong-footing goalkeeper Falkesgaard.

Da Silva celebrated by taking off his jersey and was booked for the act. He was then replaced in the 65th minute by Spanish striker Juan Molina Martinez, with the withdrawal reportedly a precaution after an apparent injury.

Martinez, better known as Stoichkov, sealed the win in the 85th minute, finishing off a pass from fellow substitute and Spanish winger Matias Nahuel.
