PETALING JAYA: Kelantan may lack the playing depth and technical quality of their next opponents, but captain Arham Khussyairi believes their search for a first win of the season comes down to something simple – cutting out the basic errors.
The east coast side are bottom of the Super League without a point after five defeats. They will try to end the run when they host Star City at Sultan Mohd IV Stadium today.
The visitors are also yet to win in the league, but arrive with some confidence.
Last week they beat Selangor 3-2 in the FA Cup quarter-final second leg, though they went out 6-4 on aggregate.
The Kangar-based side are strong in foreign talent like Brazilian strikers Ramon Machado, Douglas Oliveira and Pedro Henrique and are now led in midfield by naturalised Brazilian Endrick dos Santos.
Arham acknowledged that Star City hold an advantage in foreign players and physical presence, but said it would not dampen Kelantan’s spirits.
“Star City have an advantage with a larger number of foreign players compared to our team, in addition to their physical edge,” said Arham.
“However, with the tactics we have prepared and studied previously, we will be able to give them a good fight.
“Personally, I am aware of my commitment to do my best to help the team, including strengthening our defensive line.
“Naturally, all of us want to give our best for the team in an effort to avoid dropping any more points.
“We need to be more focused in every match and maintain our concentration until the final whistle.
“We’ve seen in several past matches that we made many simple mistakes, and this time we must avoid repeating them because such errors disrupt the team’s momentum and force us to work harder to regain control of the game,” added Arham.
