PETALING JAYA: Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) claimed a 2-0 victory over Pohang Steelers in their AFC Champions League Elite Group A match on Tuesday (Oct 13).
The match turned in JDT’s favour just before half-time when Pohang centre-back Jeon Min-Kwang was sent off, leaving the hosts with 10 men for the second half at Pohang Steelyard.
The Southern Tigers made their numerical advantage count shortly after the break, with Brazilian winger Marcus Guilherme breaking the deadlock in the 49th minute after being set up by in-form Iranian striker Shahab Zahedi, who has scored 11 goals in all competitions this season.
Guilherme then sealed the win with another left-footed strike in the 89th minute.
The result marked JDT’s first away victory over Pohang, having lost both of their previous meetings.
The Malaysian champions remain unbeaten in all competitions this season, with 11 wins from 12 matches.
They had opened their Group A campaign with a 1-1 draw against Thai side Buriram United last month.
