PETALING JAYA: Brunei have qualified for the FA Cup semi-finals after edging Kuala Lumpur 1-0 for a 4-3 win on aggregate at the Cheras Football Stadium on Sunday (Oct 11).

The Borneo side, who were held 3-3 by the City Boys in the first leg, broke the deadlock in the 12th minute through Australian striker Jordan Murray, who capitalised on a mistake by Ukrainian centreback Dimitro Lytvyn.

But the visitors were down to 10 men after wingback Tommy Mawat Bada was sent off for a high-foot challenge on KL winger Fazrul Amir Zaman in the dying stages of the first-half.

In the second-half, KL struggled to create chances despite their one-man advantage and only came to life in the last 15 minutes.

Brunei’s defence, however, stood resolute to prevent the hosts from finding an equaliser and booked a semi-final date with defending champions Johor Darul Ta’zim.

In the other quarter-final, Selangor lost 3-2 to Star City at the Petaling Jaya Stadium but still advanced to the last four on a 6-4 win on aggregate. The Red Giants had won the first leg 4-1.

In the second leg, Selangor went 2-0 up via Ahmad Zikri Khalili and Brazilian playmaker Victor Pernambuco in the ninth and 33rd minutes.

Star City then launched a fightback in the 62nd minute through Bahraini midfielder Moses Atede before Brazilian midfielder Pedro Santos levelled the score in the 75th.

Brazilian striker Ramon Machado scored the third and winning goal for Star City but it was too little too late, as Selangor booked a last-four clash with Kuching City.
