PETALING JAYA: A brace from Arif Aiman Hanapi and a debut international goal from Bergson da Silva gave Malaysia a winning start to their FIFA Asean Cup campaign on Friday (Sept 25).

Harimau Malaya beat Bangladesh 3-0 in their Group A opener at the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium in Jakarta.

Winger Arif put Malaysia firmly in control before half-time, scoring in the 18th and 37th minutes.

In the second half, Bergson, who was cleared to represent Malaysia less than two weeks ago, marked his international debut by scoring his first goal in Harimau Malaya colours in the 52nd minute.

The victory will provide an important morale boost for Malaysia ahead of their clash against Indonesia on Monday (Sept 28).
