PETALING JAYA: Selangor will have to make do without their fans on Wednesday (Sept 9) when they face Sabah in their FA Cup round of 16, second-leg match at the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) Stadium.
The Red Giants’ appeal to overturn a sanction requiring them to play behind closed doors was rejected yesterday, leaving them without home support for a match in which they are already without suspended defender Safuwan Baharudin.
The no-fan sanction was originally imposed by the Football Association of Malaysia’s (FAM) Disciplinary Committee on Nov 15 last year and subsequently upheld by the FAM Appeals Committee on Nov 26 following incidents involving spectator conduct and match organisation.
Selangor then made a fresh appeal through the Asian International Arbitration Centre (AIAC), but an Emergency Sole Arbitrator rejected the plea on Monday, meaning the sanction remains in force for tonight’s match.
“Following the decision, the sanction imposed on Selangor Football Club to play without spectators for the 2026/2027 FA Cup match against Sabah on Sept 9, 2026, at their home venue remains in force,” FAM said in a statement yesterday.
This will be another blow for the home side, who are already without defender Safuwan Baharudin after he was sent off in the 2-2 draw in the first leg in Kota Kinabalu last Wednesday.
