PETALING JAYA: Kuching City are set to field two towering figures at the heart of their defence next season.
Nigerian centreback and captain James Okwuosa has confirmed he would stay with the Cats for another season, and coach Aidil Sharin has now added another new name to his backline.
They have signed up Brazilian centreback Gabriel Peres from Sabah.
There is already excitement brewing over the sheer physicality the pairing will bring.
Okwuosa, 35, stands at 1.91m, while Peres, 29, towers even higher at 1.97m, a combination that could give Kuching the tallest centreback partnership in the league.
“Every great team is built on a foundation that cannot be broken. That foundation grows even stronger as Gabriel Peres arrives in the City of Unity.”
“Towering in presence, relentless in every challenge, and unwavering in defence, he is ready to protect our city with everything he has. The fortress is reinforced.”
Peres is not the only new face at the back.
The club have also brought in centreback Irfan Zakaria, joining Rodney Celvin Akwensivie and Yuki Tanigawa as the other defenders tasked with marshalling the middle of Kuching’s rearguard next season.
