Negri set for major changes after releasing 16 players

PETALING JAYA: Negri Sembilan are making big changes to their squad by releasing 16 players in preparation for their upcoming Super League season.

The Deer announced that 11 local players and five import players have parted ways with the club, including foreign players Joseph Esso of Ghana, Equatorial Guinea’s Luis Enrique, Amirul Adli of Singapore, Palestinian Oday Kharoub and An Sang-su of South Korea.

Esso was Negri’s top scorer last season, netting 12 goals across all competitions.

Among the local players who won’t be retained for the team are Harith Samsuri, Hadin Azman, Zahril Azri, Anwar Ibrahim, Hariz Kamarudin, and Azrin Afiq.

Zaim Iqbal, S. Vimalnair, T. Harish, and twin brothers Noor Aidil Zailani and Noor Adha Zailani were also released from the team.

“The club would like to express their deepest appreciation and gratitude to the players who will not be with the team next season,” the club said in a statement.

“Thank you for all the sweat, sacrifices, and unwavering commitment throughout the time wearing the jersey.

“We wish continued success and glory wherever you go from here on.”

The shake-up comes after Negri appointed Spanish head coach Daniel Gimenez earlier this week to lead the team for the 2026-2027 Super League season.
