Scottish switch opens new chapter for Richard

PETALING JAYA: Richard Chin (pic) believes a fresh start at Ross County can help take his career to the next level as the Malaysian international targets more minutes on the pitch for both club and country.

The 23-year-old winger arrived from Raith Rovers, where he made 29 appearances and scored twice last season.

While he gained valuable experience in Scottish football, Chin admitted he was left wanting a bigger role on the pitch.

“I had a good spell with Raith. A good experience in Scottish football but was a little frustrated that I didn’t get to play as much,” said Richard.

“I’m delighted to be here with Ross County. It’s a really good club and I can’t wait to start playing.

“I spoke to the gaffer and am looking for more game time. The management showed where they thought I could be effective for the team.”

Richard, who made his debut as a substitute with the Harimau Malaya in September last year during Malaysia’s 1-0 win over Palestine, said he hopes the move will elevate his progress with the national team.

“Moving to Scotland was already a huge step forward for my career. Naturally, I want to play as much as possible for my national team.

“My first experience with Malaysia was a very positive one and I’m looking to keep learning and making the most of every opportunity.”

The English-born winger joined Charlton Athletic’s academy at the age of six and made his senior debut in the EFL Trophy in 2021. Loan spells with Dartford, Bath City and Farnborough followed before his move to Scotland last year.

Ross County manager Stuart Kettlewell was pleased to welcome Richard to the team.

“He is an exciting winger who brings real pace and penetration to our forward line. Richard can play a number of positions across the front line and has an eye for goal,” said Kettlewell.

“He arrives with valuable experience of Scottish football, which is important, and I’m confident he will excite our supporters. I look forward to working with him as he begins this next chapter with the club.”
