PETALING JAYA: Australian coach Mehmet Durakovic makes a return to Malaysia after five years as he takes charge of Immigration for the 2026-2027 Super League season.
Durakovic will take over from former coach Yusri Che Lah, who led the team to finish sixth in the league last season.
Immigration were thrilled to bring in the former Perak gaffer to take charge, confident that he can bring a new outlook to the club.
“With his extensive experience and track record, the management are confident that coach Durakovic will bring a fresh dimension and instil a stronger fighting spirit into the team as we aim for greater success this upcoming season,” the club said in a statement.
“With a legendary career both as a player and a tactician, Durakovic brings a wealth of experience to the Immigration dugout.
“The new season brings greater challenges, but it also opens up space to create success. With passion and determination, Immigration will continue to move forward.”
The 60-year-old head coach is no stranger to Malaysian football, having been an import player for Selangor in the 90s and coached Perak to their Malaysia Cup victory in 2018 before departing in 2021.
“Durakovic’s track record of building a winning culture makes him the perfect leader to guide our squad,” the team said.
At the same time, Immigration thanked Yusri for his contributions to the team.
“We would like to express our deepest gratitude to Coach Yusri for his dedication, leadership, and unwavering commitment to the team throughout the season.
“Your impact on the team and the spirit you brought to the pitch will be remembered.”
