PETALING JAYA: Terengganu’s Brazilian playmaker Raianderson da Costa, better known as Careca, is not letting speculation over a possible demotion to A1 Semi-Pro League next season distract him from finishing their campaign strongly.

The issue surfaced last week when club president Hishamuddin Abdul Karim revealed that the management were deliberating the matter, noting that any decision would require thorough research and discussion.

He added that internal challenges, particularly financial constraints, have long affected the team.

However, Careca remains firmly focused on matters on the pitch.

“I can’t talk about that. I don’t know anything about what’s going on. I’m just focused on training and playing,” said the 30-year-old, who joined Terengganu from South Korean side Gangneung Citizen last year.

Instead, his immediate attention is on Terengganu’s upcoming Super League encounter against Negri Sembilan at the Sultan Mizan Stadium in Gong Badak on April 25.

“We are determined and focused. We will play at home and give our all to get the three points,” he said.

Careca has been a standout performer for the Turtles this season, contributing 11 goals and five assists in 26 appearances across all competitions.

The former Perak midfielder has been central to Terengganu’s attacking play, dictating the tempo with his passing, dribbling and intelligent movement.

He has also been a key figure under interim coach Tengku Hazman Raja Hassan.

Terengganu sit fifth in the league with 32 points from 30 matches, and Careca is determined to help the side maintain their position.

“Right now, I’m focused on the last four games. After that, we’ll see what the future holds.”
