Is KL coach Vidakovic paying the price for his brutal honesty?

PETALING JAYA: Kuala Lumpur continue their fight to get a second-place finish in the Super League, but questions remain on the future of head coach Risto Vidakovic (pic).

The City Boys took home three important points from their away match against Kelantan on Friday, and reached their highest points tally since the 2021 season as they now have 42 in the league with three matches remaining.

Although Vidakovic travelled with the team to Kota Baru, his time with the club remains uncertain as he was not named in the team line-up ahead of the match.

According to sources, the club’s management had decided to rest Vidakovic for the remainder of the season.

Before facing Kelantan, KL were knocked out of the Malaysia Cup after an 8-1 aggregate thrashing by Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) in the semi-finals.

Vidakovic, who has always been brutally honest with his remarks, waved the white flag after JDT beat them 4-0 in the first leg at home, which left a sour taste in the mouths of fans at management.

An official announcement is expected from the club in the coming days as the team have a short break before they resume league action, meeting JDT again on May 2, before the final two matches against Negri Sembilan on May 10 and Kuching on May 15.

During the match against Kelantan, KL’s Safawi Rasid broke the deadlock in the 20th minute, before Kpah Sherman extended the lead in the 53rd to give the City Boys a comfortable win on the road.
