PETALING JAYA: Selangor and Kuching City shared the spoils in the Malaysia Cup semi-final first leg, after both sides etched a 1-1 draw at the Petaling Jaya Stadium on Sunday (April 5).
The Cats drew first blood in the 42nd minute when Cameroonian striker Ronald Ngah buried from the penalty spot.
The penalty was awarded after referee Izzul Fikri Kamarusaman adjudged that Selangor defender Safuwan Baharuddin had fouled Ngah but replays showed that the Singaporean got the ball first.
There were queries from the players and the Selangor bench, but Izzul stood by his decision, saying he had the player as well when he challenged the ball.
Selangor’s equaliser came from Brazilian striker Chrigor Moraes, who finished off a brilliant cross from Syahir Bashah from the centre of the midfield by tapping the ball past Kuching goalkeeper Haziq Nadzli in injury time.
The second leg will be at the State Stadium in Kuching on April 18.
