CAS fix Feb 26 hearing date for FAM, seven players in FIFA appeal

PETALING JAYA: The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) have set Feb 26 for a hearing in Lausanne, Switzerland, to decide the fate of seven professional footballers and the Football Association of Malaysia’s (FAM) appeal against FIFA.

The cases involving mixed heritage players Facundo Garces, Rodrigo Holgado, Imanol Machuca, Joao Figueiredo, Gabriel Palmero, Jon Irazabal and Hector Hevel, together with FAM, have been consolidated and will be heard jointly.

All the players were sanctioned by FIFA on Sept 25 last year, receiving 12-month suspensions from all football-related activities and fines too.

However, on Jan 26, CAS granted provisional measures, temporarily staying the sanctions until a final decision is delivered following next month’s hearing.

The outcome of the proceedings will determine whether the suspensions are upheld, reduced or overturned.
