Court grants stay on FIFA suspension for seven Harimau Malaya players

PETALING JAYA: FIFA have notified its associate members of the recent Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) decision to allow a stay of execution for seven Harimau Malaya players.

The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) shared the official letter of FIFA on Tuesday (Jan 27) regarding the decision of the CAS to temporarily lift the 12-month football suspension on Facundo Garces, Rodrigo Holgado, Imanol Machuca, Joao Figueiredo, Gabriel Palmero, Jon Irazabal and Hector Hevel.

"FIFA have informed the relevant member associations and confederations to immediately lift the suspension of the seven players at the domestic and continental level," FAM said.

The letter of FIFA had been sent to the football governing bodies in Argentina, Colombia, Spain, Holland and the Asian Football Confederation. In the letter, the head of the disciplinary committee of FIFA, Americo Espallargas, requested that the member associations and confederations lift the suspension imposed on the players.

The ruling allows the seven mixed-heritage players to return to competitive football with immediate effect while awaiting the final verdict of the CAS on their appeal. The players had been suspended by FIFA in Sept 2025 over allegations of document falsification.
