UM-Damansara won’t slow down after setback against Turtles

PETALING JAYA: A1 Semi-Pro club Universiti Malaya (UM)-Damansara are not selling themselves short against Terengganu despite going down 0-2 in their Malaysia Cup round of 16 first leg match on Monday.

UM-Damansara coach Ridzuan Abu Shah admitted that they were outclassed by Super League club Terengganu, but that does not mean they were on the back foot during the match.

“We admit that Terengganu had the advantage and the strength, but we had chances to score goals as well,” said Ridzuan.

“But we did not convert and take advantage of those opportunities.”

The Turtles got ahead after just five minutes through Brazilian midfielder Rainderson da Costa, before UM-Damansara captain A. Shivan Pillay unfortunately handed them the second goal after his attempt to clear the ball off the line backfired.

“Both the goals we conceded came from mistakes. The first one from a lack of marking and the second goal from a free-kick,” Ridzuan added.

But UM-Damansara are charged up for their second-leg match on Friday at the Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin Stadium in Gong Badak.

“We will go to Terengganu and play the best we can. We need to play the second-leg match with caution, but at the same time ensure we have open play and mount a comeback,” he said.
