PETALING JAYA: Negri Sembilan goalkeeper Azri Ghani (pic) hopes to hold off Selangor today as he faces one giant after another in the Super League.
Having kept Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) at bay for 97 minutes before conceding a goal last Friday, Azri will be aiming not to let that happen again when they take on the Red Giants at the Petaling Jaya Stadium today.
He hopes the Deer can put up a strong showing away from home but expects a huge challenge as Selangor are in good spirits, spurred on by new coach Kim Pan-gon’s 5-2 winning start against Brunei on Saturday.
“I hope we can all maintain the momentum and carry it into the match against Selangor,” said Azri.
“I believe if we can play according to the coach’s plans and tactics, we can get a positive result.”
Besides a 0-2 loss to JDT earlier this month, Selangor have won their previous six matches in the Super League, and Azri said their opponents’ consistency will be tested.
“We need to stay alert to Selangor’s movements. Regardless, we want to put in a better performance than we did in the previous match,” said Azri.
Negri are currently sixth in the Super League with 17 points, behind Terengganu in fifth with 21 points, while Selangor are fourth with 28 points.
