PETALING JAYA: Speculation is mounting that the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) executive committee could resign en masse following a 'special' meeting scheduled at a premier hotel on Thursday (Jan 8).

It is learnt that several executive committee members are considering stepping down amid a series of controversies that have engulfed the national football body, including the suspension of seven mixed-heritage players and growing concerns over possible FIFA intervention should further governance shortcomings emerge.

The rumours gathered pace after several exco members were spotted at the Hilton Hotel in Petaling Jaya ahead of the meeting.

When approached, one member declined to confirm the speculation but said: “You’ve heard about the resignation talk? Let’s wait for the meeting to conclude and then we’ll see what happens.”

It is understood that Tan Sri Hamidin Mohd Amin, who is currently serving as acting president, could be reinstated as FAM president should the committee step aside.

The latest developments come at a turbulent time for FAM, who have been under intense scrutiny following the eligibility issues involving seven players of mixed heritage.

The suspensions raised questions about due diligence, documentation processes, and internal coordination, prompting widespread criticism from fans, former players, and football administrators.

Compounding matters, concerns have been raised over possible FIFA intervention if FAM are found to have breached international regulations or governance standards.

FIFA have historically taken a firm stance against administrative irregularities and third-party interference, and any action from the world governing body could have serious implications for Malaysian football, including potential sanctions.
