PETALING JAYA: New Selangor head coach Kim Pan-gon is ready to hit the ground running.

The South Korean, who was Malaysia's former head coach, said Selangor’s clear direction and commitment convinced him that the club was ready to move forward under his guidance, with targets that align closely with his own aspirations as a coach.

"My decision to join Selangor was based on my confidence in the club’s vision and commitment,” said Pan-gon.

"The club have shown a strong understanding of the philosophy and leadership that I bring, and the targets set are in line with what I want to achieve."

He has outlined clear objectives for the season.

"Our main objective is to finish at least second in the league to qualify for the 2026-27 AFC Champions League," he said.

"We are also targeting success in domestic Cup competitions and aim to reach the semi-finals of the Shopee Cup, which I believe reflects the team’s potential and strengths."

Pan-gon also shared insights into his coaching philosophy.

"My approach has always been player-focused,” he said.

"High-quality training, clear tactical planning and detailed opponent analysis are essential.

"A balanced squad of experienced and young players, combined with discipline, professionalism, focus and teamwork, will allow everyone to perform their roles effectively.

"Off the pitch, motivation and encouragement are just as important so the team competes as one."

He also paid tribute to Selangor’s passionate fan base, admitting that their unwavering support played a role in his decision to join the club.

”I truly appreciate the pride and loyalty shown by Selangor supporters, especially at Petaling Jaya Stadium in the past, which inspired me to come here.

"The team will aim to play with high intensity and aggression to achieve as many victories as possible for the supporters and help reignite their pride in the club."
