KUALA LUMPUR: Kuala Lumpur staged a strong second-half comeback to beat Immigration 4-2 in their Super League match at the Cheras Football Stadium on Sunday (Jan 4).
Captain Paulo Josue led the way with two goals in the 30th and 68th minutes, proving his value at 36.
Safawi Rasid added a fine long-range goal in the 75th minute, while substitute Kpah Sherman sealed the win two minutes later.
Josue’s opening goal was first ruled out but awarded after a VAR review.
Immigration fought back after the break.
Fadzrul Danel Nizam scored from close range to level the match before Venezuelan midfielder Eduardo Sosa put the visitors ahead with a solo effort.
That setback sparked Kuala Lumpur into action, and they took control to turn the match around.
Coach Risto Vidakovic said it was a tough game but was pleased with his team’s response.
"It was a very difficult match. They were dangerous on the counter and caused us problems," he said.
"We started the second half badly and didn’t expect to go behind, but the players reacted well.
"The red card helped, but the response was important."
Vidakovic praised Josue’s influence but said the veteran must be managed carefully.
"Individual quality makes the difference. Paulo has something special, but we must manage his minutes," he said.
He also warned his players not to be complacent.
"The second round will be tougher. We still have things to improve and must be ready for it."
