JDT open M’sia Cup title defence against Police

PETALING JAYA: Several intriguing match-ups have been thrown up following the Malaysia Cup Round-of-16 draw, with all ties to be played over two legs.

Brunei face a challenging test as they are drawn against A1 side Kelantan The Red Warriors led by veteran tactician Irfan Bakti, while Negri Sembilan will take on Immigration in what promises to be a competitive encounter.

Terengganu have been paired with A1 Semi-Pro outfit Universiti Malaya (UM)-Damansara, a tie that could test the Super League side’s consistency against hungry opposition eager to cause an upset.

Defending champions Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) begin their title defence against Police, while Malaysia Cup’s most successful team Selangor, with a record 33 titles, will lock horns with Super League rivals Kelantan The Real Warriors in one of the standout fixtures of the round.

Elsewhere, Kuching City are set to face Penang, FA Cup runners-up Sabah will meet Melaka, and Kuala Lumpur have been drawn against A1 Semi-Pro side Perak.

JDT won the Malaysia Cup last season when they beat Pahang 2-1.
