PETALING JAYA: Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) secretary-general Datuk Noor Azman Rahman is facing an investigation by FIFA following the document falsification case involving seven heritage players who are currently suspended.
FAM acting president Datuk Yusoff Mahadi said the world governing body had emailed the association seeking clarification on Azman’s role during the documentation process involving the players.
“This is a new development. We have just received an email from FIFA and, based on the findings of the Independent Investigation Committee, we were already planning to refer Datuk Azman to the disciplinary board,” said Yusoff.
“FIFA want to understand his role and how the process worked, including how the documents were submitted.
“They want a clearer explanation of his involvement in this matter,” said Yusoff.
Azman, who is currently suspended over the case, is also expected to face the FAM disciplinary board, where a decision on his future will be made.
The move follows the IIC’s recommendation that Azman must face disciplinary action.
FAM have also agreed to lodge a police report to track down those responsible for the document falsification. The report will be filed soon, as the IIC, chaired by former Chief Justice Tun Md Raus Sharif, has limited powers to take further action.
“We will wait for the disciplinary board’s decision before taking any action. There is a proper process, and we cannot make decisions arbitrarily.
“If he is found guilty, the case will be brought to the council meeting to determine the appropriate course of action.
“Each offence carries a different level of punishment, and the severity of the penalty will reflect the seriousness of the wrongdoing.
“Ultimately, the FAM executive committee will make the final decision,” he added.
For the record, Azman was suspended on Oct 17, and FAM have yet to make any plans to find a replacement while the case is still ongoing.
