FAM, Selangor hit with fines over AFC competition breaches

PETALING JAYA: The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) have been slapped with further sanctions after the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) fined the body for two breaches during Malaysia’s Asian Cup qualifier against Nepal at Bukit Jalil Stadium on Nov 18.

The penalties were decided at the AFC disciplinary and ethics committee meeting on Monday (Dec 15), with FAM first fined for a delayed kick-off.

According to the AFC, the first half began one minute and 20 seconds late, while the second half was delayed by another one minute and 30 seconds. FAM were fined US$2,000 (RM10,192) for breaching Article 2.2 of the AFC competition operations manual.

In a separate ruling, FAM were also sanctioned for failing to ensure national winger Faisal Halim attended the post-match press conference as required.

The association was handed a US$10,000 (RM40,770) fine for violating Article 4.3.8 of the AFC Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2027 competition regulations, while Faisal was separately fined US$10,000 (RM40,770) for breaching Article 31.3.

Meanwhile, Selangor were also punished following several incidents during their AFC Champions League Two match against Persib Bandung at Petaling Jaya Stadium on Nov 6.

As the home side, Selangor were fined a total of US$15,250 (RM62,174) for three offences.

The first involved a delay of one minute and 42 seconds to the start of the second half, resulting in a US$1,250 (RM5,096) fine.

The club was then fined US$7,000 (RM28,539) after two spectators linked to the club encroached onto the pitch, and another US$7,000 (RM28,539) for a third offence under the AFC disciplinary and ethics code.

Persib Bandung were handed a heavier fine of US$30,000 (RM122,310) for three offences, including pitch invasion and the throwing of objects onto the field.
