Selangor battles back for draw against Philippines in Asean Club Championship

PETALING JAYA: Selangor fought back from a goal down to draw 1-1 with Filipino side Dynamo Herb Cebu in the Asean Club Championship Shopee Cup, but left Manila wishing they had turned their dominance into a winning result.

Playing at the Rizal Memorial Stadium on Wednesday (Dec 3), Cebu struck first when striker Rico Ofredo Andes finished a flicked header from Senegalese midfielder Abou Sy off a corner in the 47th minute.

The goal jolted Selangor into action, and they drew level just seven minutes later. Brazilian forward Willian Lira tapped home from close range after English midfielder Zach Clough picked him out with a precise low cross in the 54th minute.

Selangor controlled the match from start to finish, enjoying 68% possession, registering 17 shots, and putting six on target - yet they were unable to find the decisive goal.

The draw leaves Selangor on five points from three matches, while Cebu earned its first point of the tournament.
