EAIC: Special task force formed to investigate allegations against seven footballers

KUALA LUMPUR: The Enforcement Agency Integrity Commission (EAIC) has formed a Special Task Force to investigate allegations against the seven heritage Malaysian football players.

This is in regard to irregularities in the verification of identification documents and compliance with standard operating procedures (SOPs) in the citizenship process of the players.

The EAIC said forming the task force is under subsection 17(1) of the Enforcement Agency Integrity Commission Act 2009 [Act 700].

"The issue has been linked to the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) and is reportedly under investigation by the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA).

"The task force will be led by EAIC Deputy Chairman Datuk Dr Prasad Sandosham Abraham, along with Commission members Datuk Siti Zainab Omar, Datuk Seri Dr Yusof Ismail, and Datuk Ong Lam Kiat, as well as senior officers from the EAIC Operations Division," the commission said in a statement on Tuesday (Nov 4).

The EAIC said the decision was made during its 11th Commission Meeting this year, held on Tuesday (Nov 4).

"The meeting decided that a comprehensive investigation would be carried out to examine integrity, governance, and procedural compliance related to the management and verification of the players’ documents.

"We seek the full cooperation of all relevant agencies and parties throughout the course of the investigation, given that this matter involves public interest and the integrity of the nation at the international level,” the commission said.
