PETALING JAYA: Selangor kept a gutsy Negri Sembilan at bay to advance into the FA Cup semi-finals after winning 6-3 on aggregate at the Petaling Jaya Stadium on Wednesday (Oct 29).
Although the Red Giants went down 2-3 in the second leg match, it was enough to see them through to the final four after they won the first leg match 4-0.
Negri had opened their scoring account early in the 12th minute thanks to Harith Shamsuri.
The visitors started closing in on the aggregate score in the 27th minute when N. Javabilaarivin doubled the lead.
Before half-time, Selangor made sure to add to their advantage after Willian Lira scored in the 42nd minute.
Late into the second half, Negri’s Mio Tsuneyasu scored his team’s third goal to keep their hopes alive in the 80th minute.
But it wasn’t enough to stop Selangor from advancing to the semis as Faisal Halim sealed their spot with a goal in the 86th minute.
Selangor will meet Sabah next in the semi-finals after the Rhinos beat Kelantan 5-2 on aggregate.
The Rhinos won the second leg fixture 3-1 at the Likas Stadium on Wednesday (Oct 29).
Sabah’s Jafri Firdaus Chew found the net early after scoring just 10 minutes in, and the lead was doubled 11 minutes later thanks to forward Ajdin Mujagic.
Kelantan got one goal before half-time when defender Simen Lyngbo headed the ball into goal.
But 10 minutes into the second half, things got worse for Kelantan as the referee awarded Sabah a penalty after the ball hit Alexander Yeoule’s hand.
Mujagic stepped up to give Sabah their third goal and it was enough to see them through to the semi-finals.
