Former Chief Justice to lead FAM’s probe into FIFA suspension case

PETALING JAYA: Former Chief Justice Tun Md Raus Sharif has been appointed chairman of the independent committee set up by the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) to investigate documentation issues involving seven players who FIFA handed a 12-month suspension.

The appointment, announced by FAM on Monday (Oct 27), follows the association’s earlier pledge to form an impartial body to look into the matter.

FAM deputy president Datuk S. Sivasundaram had said on Oct 17 that the committee would operate independently, with no involvement from FAM officials, to ensure fairness and transparency.

Tun Raus brings with him decades of legal and judicial experience, having served as Chief Justice of Malaysia from 2017 and holding numerous key positions throughout his career.

FAM expressed confidence that under his leadership, the independent committee will conduct a thorough and professional investigation before submitting its findings.
