PETALING JAYA: Selangor have one foot in the FA Cup semi-finals after cruising to a commanding 4-0 win over Negri Sembilan in the first-leg quarter-final on Saturday (Oct 18).

The Red Giants travelled to Seremban determined to secure an advantage, but head coach Christophe Gamel admitted he did not expect such a convincing result.

The match at the Tuanku Abdul Rahman Stadium in Paroi saw Selangor in full control, with Faisal Halim netting twice in the 33rd and 62nd minutes.

Chrigor Moraes and Zack Clough added to the tally with goals in the 47th and 55th minutes to complete the rout.

It was a marked improvement from their last visit to Paroi on Aug 24, when they went down 2-1.

“I’m very happy with the players’ performance and tonight’s result. We didn’t expect to score four goals, but it showed the true character of the Selangor players,” said Gamel.

“Our focus was to prove that we can score, especially against Negri, who are a strong team with great fan support.

“I believe this win will have a positive impact and boost the team’s confidence for the challenges ahead.”

Both teams will meet again in the return leg on Oct 28 to decide who advances to the semi-finals.
