Mintah’s debut delayed as paperwork holds up naturalised striker

PETALING JAYA: Newly naturalised striker Jordan Mintah (pic) will have to wait a little longer to make his debut for Harimau Malaya.

Coach Peter Cklamovski had earlier named him in the squad but on Thursday, confirmed that the Ghana-born forward was left out of the squad against Laos in the Asian Cup 2027 third-round qualifiers on Thursday due to pending paperwork.

Mintah had been excited to play for Malaysia for the first time.

“I’m not sure – it is a document that needs to come from his naturalisation of five years, so it’s out of my control,” said Cklamovski after Malaysia’s 3-0 win over Laos in their AFC Asian Cup 2027 third-round qualifier on Thursday.

“Once the documents arrive, he’ll be available for selection.”

Mintah, who plays for Kuching City, received his Malaysian citizenship in August and was expected to widen the national team’s attacking options.
