PETALING JAYA: Facundo Garces is the second mixed heritage player after Rodrigo Holgado to arrive in Malaysia and help resolve the documentation issue leading to his one-year FIFA ban.

According to Spanish media El Correo, the 26-year-old is in Malaysia to assist in the process of resolving the issue.

"He is in the Asian country to cooperate with the national body to appeal the one-year playing ban," said the report.

On Sept 26, FIFA fined FAM 350,000 Swiss francs (RM1.8mil) and banned seven players – Garces, Jon Irazabal, Holgado, Imanol Machuca, Hector Hevel, Joao Figueiredo and Gabriel Palmero – for 12 months over irregular registration documents used during Malaysia’s Asian Cup qualifiers against Vietnam in June.

Garces played in the Vietnam game and the recent 2-1 win against Singapore.

He has been one of the defensive rocks in the national team, and coach Peter Cklamovski hailed him as a defensive leader thanks to his aggression during defending and calmness with the ball.
