FIFA ban sparks social media storm

PETALING JAYA: When FIFA dropped the bombshell ban on Football Association of Malaysian (FAM) and seven players, fans and critics flooded social media – demanding answers and clarity.

And many turned up at Johor Regent Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim’s Instagram comment section, some standing by him while many taking a swipe at the Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) owner.

On Friday, FIFA announced their sanction over FAM for doctoring documents to get seven foreigners to play under the Harimau Malaya banner.

Tunku Ismail shared his disappointment over FIFA for their severe decision in his post on social media and it had garnered over 5,000 comments in just a day.

“In TMJ we trust,” said Ifham.

But majority of the comments came from users in Indonesia, who had been unhappy with Tunku Ismail for hinting Indonesia were the reason behind FIFA’s punishment for FAM.

“Everyone knows who played the biggest role in bringing in these Latin players right? Everyone knows which club have the most Latin players, right? Feeling right all the time is the worst mistake,” said Ahmad Muhdor.

“Sorry, we don’t bother about this. We need to focus on round 4. It’s not our business,” said Aris Muwardi.

“So obsessed with Indonesia until that obsession has become an accusation,” said Djalu Herlambang.

“FIFA blame the documentation, and you question the process? And then blame the country?” said Feb Bray Rushandy.

“If you dare to do it then be responsible. Don’t go looking for a black sheep now; that’s called being a coward. If you’re really innocent, then prove it and not give suspicions to other parties,” said Biduan.

“Naturalisation project to Malaysia? No. Naturalisation project to JDT? Yes,” said Dafad.
